Teens should take a shower immediately after practice, games, or playing.
As a teen struggling with acne, I honestly didn't have the best personal hygiene. I was an athlete throughout my teen years and I sweated a lot. When I got home from practicing or playing a game, I didn't always take a shower right then. Due to fatigue, I would often fall asleep and not take a shower until the next morning. This bad habit was I believe the culprit for my acne problems. The dirt from the sweat clogged my pores, my clothes were dirty and sweaty causing my face and body to harbor acne producing bacteria. It is a must to take a shower immediately after exercising.
Teens should wash your face in the morning and at night.
I was never good at consistently washing my face at least twice a day. Washing your face in the mornings only before school is not good enough. It never dawned on me that 24 hours between facial washings is the perfect setup for an acne outbreak. Many teens are lazy just like I was. Prevention takes effort but is worth it in the end.
Teens should change their pillowcases and bedsheets often.
Sleeping on the same pillowcase and bed linen for day is poor hygiene. Since most teens don't like to bathe, it makes sense that the pillowcase and bed linen are breeding grounds for acne bacteria. Many people like sleeping on their stomachs which exposes their face to the pillow. If the pillowcase is dirty then there is an increased likelihood that acne will occur. The average teen struggles with making up their beds and applying new bed sheets. Laziness in this manner promotes potential acne problems.
From birth until maybe between ages 6-8 parents helped bathe their kids. When the kids were of age to bathe themselves they got lazy and started developing poor hygiene and bad habits. These bad habits directly tie into teen acne. So, before buying the next new acne medication, teens should consider their personal hygiene.
